Hi - my name is Anthony, and I'm basically a new programmer. I have some knowledge in HTML, and am currently starting to learn HTML more completely, along with JavaScript and CSS. I just recently downloaded Microsoft's Express Editions of Visual Basic and C++, and I'm looking forward to learning those - I already have a book about C++ from the library, "C++ from the Ground Up" by Herbert Schildt. I have created a few small business websites and hope to make more, but that will have to wait - after seeing other websites and learning more things, I start seeing all my errors and mistakes! My current software is NetObjects Fusion 9, in which I am a little disappointed in... Hopefully, though, as soon as I learn more web scripting languages, I can put better use to it. I don't know if anyone has heard of that software= basically, my main problem with it is that it's templates/site styles are horrible (I guess that's where the CSS/HTML/JavaScript comes in?)... I am also currently studying for my A+ certification - is there another certification I should attempt before trying that? (i.e., Microsoft Office Specialist?) Thanks for all the help!

Anthony

P.S. M36 Teen - I saw your blog and I like the design - what program did you use to make the graphics? And what blog hosting / dns hosting do you use? Thanks.

Anthony,

Great job! Microsoft truly made an excellent move to create the Express Edition. I've never heard of NetObjects. Is it a content management system? Yes, CSS is a great language to know. Many large websites will use this extensively. The greatest benefit to use it is that one file controls the look of the whole website, so you could change something on your website that would normally take up to hours.

You probably know, but the Web developer express edition looks to be a stripped down editor of the capabilities that Visual Studio has.

In Christ Jesus,

Joseph-

Thanks for the reply! I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner, but we've been pretty busy these last couple of days. As I am pretty much new to programming, etc., (I just have a little experience), I don't exactly understand what a Content-Management-System is. From what I've seen on Wikipedia.com, it looks to be a special program or code that allows the "client" to manage their own websites? To add to my confusion, Wikipedia.com has a list of hundreds of CMS freeware and professional programs.

NetObjects is an advanced WYSIWYG web design program. It also includes a program called nPower, which I believe to be a CMS - it allows a client, once they have purchased a license (which costs $60), to update and change parts of their website. I'd like to be able to offer my clients a CMS that's free, if that's possible - there's a ton of freeware content management systems listen at [HYPERLINK@en.wikipedia.org] , but I don't really know how I'd go about choosing the right one and then implementing it with my software.

I guess I could use an explanation of CMS, when you get a chance. :)

Thanks,
Anthony

P.S. Has anybody else been using this forum lately?

Anthony,

CMS is basically a system that enables someone to setup their website using a control panel. The CMS updates all of the sidebar links, creates the page, and then allows dynamic updates.

I would think that the best way to find what CMS you like best is to try some. Although I've never used one, I can see how extremely handy they could be, saving you, the web designer, hours of minor updates, and letting the client do that. And, if you don't like the CMS' out there, write your own! There would be a few challenges, but overall, not too hard.
