nvu

I am trying to get a new project called nvu to work on my computer. NVU is a WYSIWYG web site editor that intends to replace frontpage and dreamweaver. It has a long way to go before it gets to that point but even in a pre-alpha stage it shows promise. It is based off of Mozilla Composer and sponsered by Lindows. [HYPERLINK@nvu.com] Recently ver. 0.1 was released. I downloaded the binaries and extracted them to /usr/local/nvu/. I tried to run /usr/local/nvu/nvu but it hit an error of a missing library. I downloaded the library and installed it. Now it hits a wierd error. Here is the error message:
bash-2.05b# ./nvu
run-mozilla.sh: Cannot execute /usr/lib/mozilla/nvu-bin.
bash-2.05b#
NVU is supposed to be able to run without mozilla. I have ver. 1.6 of mozilla installed for dependencies. I use, however, mozilla firefox as my default browser. I looked in /usr/lib/mozilla/ and found the mozilla 1.6 install. nvu-bin is in /usr/local/nvu/. I found out that /usr/local/nvu/nvu is a script that runs /usr/local/nvu/run-mozilla.sh that is supposed to run /usr/local/nvu/nvu-bin. I searched the scripts and could not find the problem. I then executed /usr/local/nvu/nvu-bin. I hit this error:
bash-2.05b$ /usr/local/nvu/nvu-bin
/usr/local/nvu/nvu-bin: relocation error: /usr/lib/mozilla/components/libnecko.so: undefined symbol: _Z16NS_NewThreadPoolPP13nsIThreadPooljjj16PRThreadPriority13PRThreadScope
I am stuck. I use Gentoo Linux ([HYPERLINK@www.gentoo.org]). I also use KDE as my default window manager. |

Will,
On my RHEL3 box (WBEL actually) I tested this nvu program (never had heard of it before). Like you, I ran into the same library problem (libstdc++ version 3?!) but once I installed the library, it came right up without any trouble.
I don't have my Mozilla in the path (I'm using firefox in ~/firefox/) so it's not even looking for it. Sorry I can't be of any more help to you, but I figured you'd appreciate the report.

I got it to work by editing the nvu script. I would encourage everyone to try this program and help by submitting bug reports, coding, etc... It is a very cool piece of software even in 0.1 stage. It works in windows and linux. |
